Station Square – Nürtingen

At the heart of the design lies the train station and the new HfWU building in Nürtingen. The current city entrance is defined by Europastraße and Oberbohingerstraße—two busy roads that act as barriers for pedestrians moving toward the city center.

The project task was to reimagine this area as a multifunctional station square and welcoming gateway to the new HfWU campus. The goal: to create a vibrant public space with long-term usability and a strong quality of stay, while integrating diverse urban needs.

Key considerations included:

  • Urban edges & topography

  • Ecology – water elements, tree planting, and green structures

  • Mobility – pedestrians, bicycles, private and public transport

  • Uses & atmosphere – balancing functions with the spirit of place
